Your blood pressure kit comes with a monitor, an arm cuff and a tube connector. Before taking your blood pressure, make sure you:
- Avoid caffeine and exercise for at least 30 minutes
- Empty your bladder
- Rest for at least 5 minutes
Now you’re ready to check your blood pressure.
- Plug the connector on the cuff tube into the device.
- Remove the clothing on your upper arm.
- Open the cuff and loosen it fully. Make sure tube is exiting the cuff toward your hand and away from your body.
- Place your arm through the cuff loop. Your palm should be facing up.
- Position the cuff’s edge about an inch (2-3 cm) above the elbow. Align the tube with the center of your arm.
- Wrap the end of the cuff over your arm to secure it in place. It should be snug but not too tight. You can test the cuff’s fit by inserting one finger under the cuff.
- Press the START/STOP button on the monitor to power it on.
- Sit still and do not speak as the cuff inflates.
- Wait for the cuff to fully inflate.
- Your blood pressure reading will display on the monitor.
- When the cuff deflates, you’re done!
